Murphy’s Bar & Grill – Under New Management the new owners are a husband and wife team (Brian & Lisa). Brian is friendly and can be found behind the bar. Willis Hobbies – Initially founded in Williston Park around 1949, Willis Hobbies relocated to Mineola in the 1970’s after being purchased by Alfred Ford. Mr. Ford operated the business, which moved from Mineola Boulevard to Willis Avenue, until the 1990’s, when his two sons Steve and Ken assumed the helm. Franwin Pharmacy – In the vast shadow of one of the areas largest hospital systems, NYU Winthrop University Medical Center, Mineola is home to one of the last neighbor pharmacies on Long Island. Mineola American – If it happened in Mineola after 1952, then there is a pretty good chance that it was printed in the Mineola American Newspaper. The media outlet, founded by legendary Mineola resident Lou Sandberg, who wrote his own “around town with Lou” column up until his death a few years ago, serves not only its namesake village, but Albertson, East Williston and Williston Park.
